Preparing Warehouse Teams for Year-End Inventory Counts
Floor-ready habits that keep count days orderly when Taiwan manufacturers close the books.
Year-end inventory counts fail more often from unclear floor instructions than from arithmetic errors. When shift leads receive a one-page plan with freeze times, tag colors, and who owns disputed bins, the count finishes closer to schedule.
Start two weeks early. Print location maps, mark quarantine cages for damaged goods, and agree which open receipts stay in goods-in-transit versus floor stock. Cut-off confusion is the usual source of later reconciliation pain.
On count day, freeze movements in agreed zones rather than the entire plant if continuous production cannot stop. Document every exception—partial pallets, consignment stock, customer-owned materials—before tags are collected.
After the count, reconcile the perpetual listing the same day while memories are fresh. High-value SKUs deserve a second pair of eyes even when the first pass looked clean. Your auditor will ask how those exceptions were cleared; keep the notes with the count packets.
